CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – An alleged member of Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) was arrested by the joint personnel of Lanuza Municipal Police Station and 2nd Surigao del Sur Provincial Mobile Force in Purok 2, Barangay Agsam, Lanuza town, Suirgao del Sur province, on Thursday, March 5.

In a statement released on Friday, March 6, Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. said Paquito M. Delicona Sr., 40 and a resident of Sitio Ebuan, Barangay Mampi, in Lanuza town was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for alleged attempted murder that was issued by a court in Surigao del Sur.

The suspect did not resist arrest when lawmen served the warrant at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

At the moment of his arrest, he was identified as member of Platoon 1, Weakened Guerilla Front 30 of the CPP-NPA North-Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee, the region’s top PRO 13 official said.

The arrest of the suspect was a result of the combined efforts of the security forces and the citizens who reported the latter’s location in Barangay Agsam, Lanuza town, he said.

According to Esquivel, Caraga police will always conduct manhunt operations against members of the CPP-NPA, who have existing warrants of arrest.

“Those CPP-NPA members with standing warrants of arrest will be the subject of our man-hunt operations,” Esquivel said.

Esquivel assured that Caraganons can defeat insurgency by continuously working hand-in-hand with authorities, the local government units, non-government organizations and other stakeholders as the police has prioritized counter-insurgency programs and operations in the region.

“This is our outmost goal, maintaining peace and order in our region, but we cannot do it alone without the active support of the Caraganons,” Esquivel Jr. added.
