GENERAL SANTOS CITY– More than 30 persons, mostly student passengers, were injured after the jeepney they were riding fell into a ravine in a hinterland village in Barangay Conel, this city last Friday.
City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (CDRRMO) Bong Dacera said the victims were students of the Polomolok National High School in Polomolok, South Cotabato who were coming home from a trek to Sachez peak, a tourism site where they spent overnight.
Dacera said the driver Francis Solicito reportedly lost control behind the wheel after the brakes malfunctioned, sending the jeepney plunging into the 40-foot ravine.
He said responders from the CDRRMO rushed to the area to rescue the victims who were brought to a local hospital for treatment.
