Army official nabbed for extorting money from aspiring soldiers

COTABATO CITY– Operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested on Friday an Army official while extorting money from an aspiring soldiers in Datu Odin Sinsuat Maguindanao.

PColonel James Gulmatico, CIDG regional chief for Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, identified the suspect as Lt.Col. Samsudin Pulua, who was assigned with the Civil Military Operations Battalion under the Sixth Infantry Division.

He said the suspect was arrested during an entrapment operation outside the 6th ID headquarters in Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Magundanao.

Police said the suspect had reportedly demanded P100,000 from prospective Army applicants to facilitate their enlistment into the Philippine Army.

Police had filed extortion charges against the suspect who is presently detained at the custodial facility of CIDG-BARMM in the city.

Aside from criminal charges, Gulmatico said the suspect will also be meted with administrative charges for summary dismissal proceedings.

He also urged applicants who were victimized by the suspect to come into the open and file charges against the latter.
