LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Four marijuana plantations were raided by the Benguet Provincial Police Office (BPPO) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Cordillera that resulted in the uprooting and burning of more than P4-million worth of marijuana plants and dried leaves in Kibungan, Benguet on Thursday.
BPPO Director Colonel Elmer Ragay, in his report to Cordillera Regional Police Director Brig. Gen. R’win Pagkalinawan, said a total of P4,020,000 worth of marijuana plants and dried leaves were found in plantation sites located in Sitio Lamagan, Barangay Tacadang, Kibungan,Benguet.
According to Ragay, the government operatives first discovered a 200-square meter plantation site planted to 1,000 fully grown marijuana plant with estimated value of P200,000 at 10 a.m. February 27, while in the second site, 2,500 marijuana plants were uprooted from a 500-square meter lot which was estimated to be worth P500,000.
Near these two plantations, the authorities also discovered 10,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves with an estimated value of P1.2 million.
Not far from the previous site, the police also traced the third site, a 100-square meter lot which was planted to 600 marijuana plants with estimated value of P120,000. A fourth plantation yielded 6,000 plants out of a 1,200-square meter lot, which was valued at P1.2 million. Discovered in the same plantation were 15,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves worth P1.8 million.
On Wednesday, more than 1,700 marijuana plants was destroyed at the three plantation sites at Sitio Alawin, Barangay Sagubo,Kapangan,Benguet.
