Military sustains intensified campaign vs loose firearms in Maguindanao

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) vowed on Sunday to further strengthen its campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms in Maguindanao.

This, after local officials of Talitay municipality turned over 11 loose firearms and assorted ammunitions to the 601st Infantry Brigade (601st IB).

The ceremonial turnover of two M16 rifles; one M203 and one M79 granade launchers; one caliber .45 pistol; two caliber .38 pistols; four shotguns; and assorted ammunitions was held at the 601st IB headquarters at Barangay Satan in Shariff Aguak town.

Colonel Joel Mamon, deputy brigade commander of the 601st IB, extended his gratitude to the local officials of Talitay for their support to the Brigade's campaign against loose firearms.

"It is each and everyone's responsibility to maintain peace and order by addressing the root causes of the issues in the community," Mamon said.

Meanwhile, Talitay Acting Mayor Moner Sabal expressed support for the 601st IB in its peace campaigns.

The surrendered firearms and ammunition were placed under the custody of the 90th Infantry Battalion (90 IB) for safekeeping.
