A photo of what appears to be two mice boxing won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year award.
The London Natural History Museum which spearheaded the competition posted the photo on Facebook, calling the shot a “well-timed portrait” of two mice scrapping over food on a London Underground station platform.
“The fight lasted a split second, before one mouse grabbed a crumb and they went their separate ways,” the caption read.
Photographer Sam Rowley’s “Station Squabble” was chosen from over 48,000 images submitted for the competition.
“I’m so pleased to win this award. It’s been a lifetime dream to succeed in this competition in this way, with such a relatable photo taken in such an everyday environment in my hometown,” Rowley said.
According to the British lensman, he intended to only capture simple silhouettes but grabbed a split second chance when two mice jumped at each other.
“I hope it shows people the unexpected drama found in the most familiar of urban environments,” he added.
