CAMP OLA, Albay – Two heavy equipment owned by a local contractor were burned by unidentified suspects while these were parked at a construction site in Barangay Lacag, Daraga town in Albay province on Friday night.
Police Major Malu Calubaquib, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) spokesperson, told The Manila Bulletin that Engr. Williard Keith Maggay of Verzontal Builders reported to the Daraga Municipal Police Station (MPS) that he was informed by the chairman of Barangay Lacag that their dump truck and backhoe were set on fire while parked at the boundary of Lacag and Barangay Pandan at around 7:30 p.m. Friday.
“Coordination was immediately made with the BFP-Daraga, wherein team led by SFO1 Kenneth Nieva was dispatched, but while on their way, a concerned citizen, who they asked about the direction of said incident told them that he saw a group of persons also proceeding to the area. Doubtful about the presence of group of persons, they immediately requested additional security from Daraga MPS,” Calubaquib said.
Dennis Macandog, owner of Verzontal Builders, said he did not have any idea who the suspects were.
“Patuloy pa ang imbestigasyon ng pulisya. Wala namang nag-demand sa akin na kung ano,” Macandog said.
“Yung dumptruck ay worth P3.2 million, at yung excavator ay P5.5 million,” he said.
The road being constructed in Barangay Pandan to Lacag was part of the project to build a road leading to the Bicol International Airport (BIA).
