TACLOBAN CITY – Motorists here were pleasantly surprised when they were flagged down by personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Unit 8 on Friday, not to be issued citation tickets but to be handed red roses instead on the occasion of Valentine’s Day.

And after a heartful greeting of “Happy Valentine’s Day,” the police personnel handed them flyers with information of the new Helmet Act, and anti-criminality and carnapping tips.

P/Lt. Dennis Bardillon, HPU 8 operations officer, said the activity was their way of showing love to drivers within the city.

“We gave them flowers so that they would not be afraid of police officers who ensure their safety, as well as the roadworthiness of their vehicles,” he shared.

However, the official stressed that they will not be lax in implementing traffic rules and regulations.
