Ilocos Norte now a ‘GoWiFi’ zone

LAOAG CITY – The provincial government of Ilocos Norte, in partnership with Globe Telecom, Inc., has launched its “GoWiFi” service in key locations in the province to bring free internet connection and accessible communication services to Ilokanos.

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc and Globe President and Globe Chief Executive Officer Ernest Cu signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall Capitol Building, Laoag City yesterday, February 11.

Co-signatories were Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos, Globe Director for Business Development and Marketing Janis Racpan, Globe Senior Vice President for Enterprise Group Peter Maquera, and Globe Executive Vice President for Channel Management Bernard Llamzon.

At present, the free public WiFi services are available at the Provincial Capitol Building, Aurora Park, Laoag and Batac City Hall, and San Nicolas I.T. Park.

Keen to boost the province’s digital transformation, Governor Marcos Manotoc remarked: “We are very excited for the future because the Globe has pledged to connect all 23 towns and cities of Ilocos Norte with WiFi. We look forward to a very healthy, fruitful, and mutually beneficial partnership with Globe.”

The MOA also covers the installation of “GoWiFi” service in the remaining 21 municipalities in the province.
