ILOILO CITY — With the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in Mindanao, the provincial government of Iloilo has extended its temporary ban on pork and pork-based products from areas with positive cases of ASF.

Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. issued an executive order indicating the areas that ban the entry of live pigs, hog carcasses, pork meat, and pork by-products.

Prior to this, only pork and pork-based products were banned. The new order extends the ban to those coming from Davao Occidental province and Davao City.

This was the response of the Iloilo provincial government to the call of Remelyn Recoter, Western Visayas regional director of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Iloilo is the third province in Western Visayas to extend the ban on pork products, after Aklan and Negros Occidental provinces in instituting measures against ASF.

The extended ban also covers imported pork-based products coming from other parts of Asia.
