The cardinal himself said this in a message Sunday, the day he left for Rome.

“Work starts for me this week at the Congregation,” he said.

It was last December when Tagle was appointed by Pope Francis as Prefect of the Congregation of Peoples.

The cardinal sought prayers from the faithful as he embarks on his new mission.

“Please pray for me and my mission as well,” said Tagle.

He said he will also pray for Filipinos.

“I will always treasure my time with you. You can count on my prayers,” Tagle said.

He also asked the faithful to pray for the next Archbishop of Manila.

“Let us pray for docility to the Holy Spirit as we continue our life as an Archdiocese and await the next Archbishop,” said Tagle.

With his departure, the Archdiocese of Manila is now sede vacante.

Earlier, Henrietta de Villa, the country’s former ambassador to the Holy See, said the search for the new archbishop will go “full blast” once Tagle assumes his new post.

A Message from Cardinal Chito:

“Good evening. Tonight I say goodbye. Work starts for me this week at the Congregation. It was an honor and blessing to have known you and have collaborated with you. I will always treasure my time with you. You can count on my prayers. Please pray for me and my mission as well. Let us pray for docility to the Holy Spirit as we continue our life as an Archdiocese and await the next Archbishop. Stay well and joyful!”
