Bureau of Immigration (BI) has placed under “home quarantine” 19 immigration officers who boarded vessels that carried passengers that traveled through China and its special administrative regions.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the move was a preventive measure to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.
According to the BI chief, the 19 immigration officers boarded five cruise ships that carried passengers who visited China, Hong Kong, and Macau in the last 14 days, and arrived between January to February.
“The 19 immigration officers did not exhibit any symptoms of the virus, and neither did the passengers, based on the assessment of the Bureau of Quarantine,” Morente said.
Morente told BI personnel not to worry about the “self-quarantine policy as it was aimed at ensuring the health and safety of everyone through preventive measures.”
