Arroyo, who is also chair emeritus of the Association for Philippines-China Understanding (APCU), issued the following statement:

“We are deeply saddened and very concerned about the havoc to the Chinese people by the outbreak of novel corona virus which has spread to other countries. It has affected adversely not only the health, but also the socio-economic activities in China and other parts of the world.

“We strongly support China's decisive and inclusive efforts to combat the disease.

“We are confident and hopeful of the early success of our common resolve and fight against the disease for the good health and well-being of the Chinese and Filipino peoples and humankind.”
