In a statement, MinDA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the series will be dubbed “The Beauty and Bounty of Mindanao”, which will serve as a social media campaign that hopes to project a more positive image of Mindanao to the public.

“The lack of deeper knowledge of Mindanao and the fear created by the negative media reporting have stunted the growth of the islands,” he said.

He said that despite Mindanao’s strong economic performance, there is still a negative stigma attached to the island-region due to incidents which he referred to as “minor aberrations” to what Mindanao can really offer.

“There is more to Mindanao than the Marawi Siege, Maute, Abu Sayyaf, BIFF, New People’s Army, and the bombings. We produce 56% of the country’s total food requirements and our economic growth of 7.2% is almost two notches higher than the national record,” he said.

Piñol said he will be hosting the series to show that “there is really nothing to be afraid of in moving around Mindanao”.

For its first episode, the show will be featuring the Asik-Asik Falls in Alamada, North Cotabato.

The falls is known for its water which gushes out of the sides of a cliff which showers to the headwaters of Libungan River in Cotabato and then flows down to the vast Liguasan Marsh which covers the provinces of Cotabato, Maguindanao, and Sultan Kudarat.

Succeeding episodes will feature the Sheik Karim al Makhdum in Simunul, Tawi-Tawi which is known as the oldest mosque in the country, various tuna fishing and processing plants, the gas deposits in Liguasan Marsh, the municipality of Turtle Islands, and Lake Lanao, among others.

“We hope this will result in greater attention given by our economic planners to the development of Mindanao so that the peace gains of the Duterte Administration will be sustained
The first episode of “The Beauty and Bounty of Mindanao” featuring the Asik-Asik Falls will air on February 9, 2020 through MinDA’s official Facebook and YouTube pages.
