SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) is now currently monitoring three Chinese nationals from Shanghai, who were considered as Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) for possible infection with the 2019 novel Coronavirus (nCoV).

The PUIs are aged one, six and 11 years old, and continued to be confined on Wednesday, February 5.

According to ITRMC, the three PUIs arrived in Agoo, La Union last January 26 but started to show symptoms related to nCoV.

They were immediately transferred to the ITRMC for monitoring.

Their families are also quarantined and under medical observation.

On the fifth day of their confinement, the PUIs showed improvement in the condition.

But authorities are still waiting for the results of tests on samples sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

ITRMC ensured the public that the PUIs and their families have not been exposed to the public.

The Department of Health Regional Office 1 here assured that general public there was still no confirmed case of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019 nCoV) in the region.

“Wala pa po tayong kumpirmadong kaso ng 2019 n-CoV sa Region 1,” said Department of Health Region 1 Director Valeriano Lopez.
Valeriano also added that there was no truth to some reports which said that there are already confirmed cases of nCoV infection in the region.

“I ask the people especially from our region to refrain from sharing unverified data as this causes panic. Ang problema natin hindi ‘yung sakit kundi ang fake news na kumakalat tungkol dito,” he said.
