5 prisoners bolt Negros Oriental jail

BACOLOD CITY – Authorities have launched a massive manhunt five prisoners who escaped from Manjuyod District Jail in Negros Oriental Monday, February 3.

The escapees were identified as Janly Callao, 39, of Tayasan town; Julan Paculanang, 30, and Lito Pedro, 49, both residents of Jimalalud town; Ronnie Flores, 25, of Sta. Catalina town; and Joseph Casido, 24, of Manjuyod town.

The five prisoners reportedly destroyed the wall of detention cell no. 2 to make good their escape, a report from Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo) said.

The incident was discovered by personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) during the accounting of detainees at around 5:30 a.m.

Callao, Paculanang, and Pedro have pending cases for rape, while Flores and Casido are facing charges for illegal possession of firearms, and murder, respectively, police records showed.
