BACOLOD CITY - An alleged drug suspect who was suffering from depression was rescued after he climbed the 150-ft. tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Barangay Mansilingan here on Wednesday.

Maj. Carmelo Nermal, head of Police Station 7, said Ives Pelowa, 33, of the said village, attempted to jump off the tower at around 10 a.m. because he was allegedly prohibited to see his children.

Nermal said Pelowa decided to come down six hours later when he saw his family in the area, persuading him to calm down.

He was unharmed. He was brought by authorities to the barangay hall where he confessed his reasons for his actions to the village chief.

Nermal said Pelowa admitted that he was under the influence of drugs when he attempted to commit suicide that afternoon.

He (Pelowa) also surrendered a sachet of suspected shabu amounting to P45,000 to the village chief, the station commander added.

Pelowa was placed under police custody after the incident, and was safely brought home by his family the following day, after undergoing medical examination.

Pelowa was arrested last year in a drug bust here and was released from jail through plea bargaining in May, 2019.
