1 dead, another wounded in shooting in incident in Quezon City

Five masked men peppered with bullets a former drug detainee and killed him right inside his house in Quezon City on Tuesday evening.

Staff Sergeant Preynan Carolino and Corporal Arthur Sevilla identified the victim as Jesus "Baba" Fernandez, 48, security guard, who had just been released from jail in November 2019.

Berlinda, his wife, told reporters that her husband was only watching inside their house around 8:56 p.m. in Sitio Barimbao in Barangay Tandang Sora when someone knocked on their door.

"May tumatawag sa kanya, sabi 'Baba, Baba," she said, adding that she even opened the door for them.

"Pagsilip ko, mga nakatakip sila, tapos may bitbit sila, di ko na alam kung ano yun."

Out of fear, Belinda said, she and her daughter immediately ran outside their house. It was then that they heard successive gunshots, which were aimed at her husband.

"Basta ang alam ko may bisyo sya, di ko rin alam kung may kaalitan sya," she added.

Police recovered seven fired cartridge-case in the crime scene.

John Paul Cabria, 18, was also wounded after being hit by a stray bullet. He sustained a gunshot wound in his right leg.

Capt. Bernard Ocasion, duty police officer of Talipapa Police Station, said that the victim's killing might be drug related.

"Sana po, makonsensya naman kayo sa ginawa nyo. Bakit naman ganoon, pwede namag hulihin at ikulong," Belinda said. (Joseph Almer Pedrajas)

Cab driver dead after mugging his policeman passenger in Paranaque

A cab driver died after he attempted to mug his passenger who turned out to be a police officer yesterday in Paranaque City.

The driver was identified by Elmber Tubil.  The police officer was identified as P/SSgt. Ronaldo Carpio, assigned at the Paranaque police Follow-Up Section.

Investigation showed that the incident occurred at around 2 in the morning along the Multinational Avenue in Paranaque City.

Police said that Carpio boarded flagged down the taxi with plate number UVC-167 at a gas station along Macapagal Boulevard and asked to be taken to a condominium located along Dr. A. Santos Avenue.

According to authorities, the driver made a u-turn at Multinational Avenue instead of proceeding to Dr. A. Santos Avenue.

Upon reaching the dimly lit portion of the road, police said that Tubil drew his handgun and declared the heist, prompting the police officer to pull out his firearm, hitting the suspect in the body.

The wounded suspect managed to get out of the vehicle and tried to shoot it out with the policeman but was then shot once more by the cop, killing him.

Members Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered a caliber .38 revolver, a small transparent plastic sachet containing shabu.

The Paranaque City Police Chief, Col. Robin King Sarmiento said that the license plate number of the taxi is among the list of vehicles involved in a series of illegal activities. (Dhel Nazario)

Dead body found inside a box in Manila

The body of an unidentified man was found inside a box left along Padre Faura in front of Paco Park in Manila Wednesday morning.

Investigation showed that a motorcycle rider, who requested anonymity, alerted traffic enforcers of a suspicious box along Padre Faura near the corner of Romualdez Street in front of Paco Park in Manila at about 6:30 a.m.

Police who responded to the incident said the box containing the victim's body was wrapped in masking tape and bore the words "Huwag tularan! Holdaper/snatcher ako! (Do not emulate! I'm a holdupper/snatcher!)"

Upon opening the box, they saw the victim with his face and both hands wrapped in masking tape.

Police described the victim as a man between 30 to 35 years old, 4'11 in height, skinny, fair-skinned, and clad in a gray shirt, black pants, and brown slippers.

He also had numerous tattoos including a commando tattoo with the word "Budoy," a tattoo of a face with the word "Master" on his right thigh, the words "Jonald," "Suwail," "Bilog," "08 Denise," and "Kirat" on his back, and the word "Sarah" on his right forearm.

Cursory examination showed that the victim had ligature marks around his neck and two puncture wounds in his abdomen.

The victim's body was brought to Funeral Cruz for  safekeeping and autopsy examination.
