Man arrested after attacking neighbor using 'bolo' in QC

A man was arrested by police for allegedly attacking his neighbor using a bolo during the celebration of the feast of Sto. Niño in Quezon City early Monday morning.

Police identified the suspect as Russel Formentera, 42; while the victim as Carl Justin Fontanilla, 22, both residents of the city.

Other victims were identified as Mel John Dela Cruz, 25 and Mary Rose Dela Cruz, 23, who were hurt after being struck with a wood.

A report reaching the Quezon City Police District said that the three victims were having a drinking spree as a celebration for the feast of Sto. Niño in front of their house in Bago Bantay around 2:30 a.m. when Formentera threw a stone at them for an unknown reason.

Police said that the victims then confronted the suspect. But instead of asking for an apology, the latter allegedly struck the two Dela Cruz with a two-inches thick wood.

Sensing that the victims' relatives were about to mob him, Formentera rushed to his home to get a bolo and then hit Fontanilla, police added. Fontanilla sustained laceration in his left hand after trying to ward off the suspect's attack.

Patrolling officers from Masambong Police Station learned of the incident and went to the scene that led to the suspect's arrest.

2 nabbed with firearm, shabu in Las Piñas

Two men were arrested by police in possession of shabu and firearms in Las Piñas City early Monday morning.

The arrested suspects were identified as Richard Alejandro Mediquillo, 35, of Barangay Concho Satellite Ville Trece Martirez, Cavite City and Crisanto Dayao, 35 of 44 Tramo Talaba 7, Bacoor Cavite.

Investigation showed that the suspects were arrested at about 4:00 a.m. along P. Diego Cerra Avenue, Barangay Zapote, Las Piñas City.

The police said that prior to the arrest of the suspects, members of the Police Community Precinct 2 were conducting Oplan Sita when they spotted Dayao driving a motorcycle without a helmet along with Mediquillo.

Police also said that PCP-2 members flagged down the suspect and issued a violation ticket to Dayao. However, Mediquillo allegedly pulled out an improvised .22 caliber handgun with one live ammunition that prompted them to arrest the suspects.

The police said they frisked the suspects and discovered that they were carrying three pieces of transparent, heat-sealed sachets containing shabu which is about 1.3 grams amounting to P8,840.

The suspects are now detained at the Las Piñas police custodial facility and charges for violation of illegal possession of drugs and firearms were filed against them. (Jean Fernando)

2 arrested in Taguig buy-bust op

Two persons were arrested after they were caught with illegal drugs during an anti-criminality operation in Taguig City before dawn on Monday.

The suspects were identified as Edgy Paming, 32; and Sharmane Gonzales, 29.

Investigation showed that two were arrested at around 4:45 in the morning along MLQ, Lower Bicutan, Taguig City.

According to the report submitted to the Southern Police District, four patrolling officers were conducting Oplan Sita or Anti Criminality Campaign when they chanced upon the two.

During the apprehension, authorities recovered two heat-sealed plastic sachets suspected to be shabu weighing more or less 7.5 grams with an estimated value of P51,000, police said.

Suspects are now detained at Station Custodial Facility and will be charged for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Dhel Nazario)

Man yields P3.4M worth of shabu in Las Piñas

Members of the Las Piñas City police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) arrested a man in possession of about 500 grams of shabu amounting to more than P3.4 million during a buy-bust operation Saturday night.

The police identified the suspect as Danizon Manese, 29, alias Tenten. He is now detained at the police custodial facility and charges of Sec. 5 and 11 of Art. 11 of RA 9165 was filed against him at the Las Piñas City Prosecutors Office.

Investigation showed the suspect was arrested at about 11:40 p.m. last Saturday along C-5 Extension, Barangay Manuyo Dos, Las Piñas City.

The police said that members of the SDEU conducted buy-bust operation for the arrest of Menese and listed in the police drug watchlist.

Police confiscated from Menese were five pieces large half knot-tied transparent ice bags containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu which is about 500 grams amounting to more than P3.4-million and boodle buy-bust money worth P20,000.

The police said that the confiscated items were turned over to the Southern Police District Crime Laboratory for chemical analysis. (Jean Fernando)
