PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino expressed appreciation for the Jan. 15 decision penned by Cagayan de Oro City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 25 judge Arthur L. Abundiente against accused Honiforte Ladaran Redondo Jr.

Redondo was charged for violating Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) of Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

“Redondo was sentenced to suffer the penalty of life imprisonment and pay a fine of P400,000,” Aquino said.

The same sentence was meted out to lawyer and former Misamis Oriental provincial board member Michael Roa and his brother Porferio Roa Jr., the brothers of a former mayor of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, in a decision penned by Judge Gil Bollozos of RTC Branch 21, Cagayan de Oro dated July 10, 2019 for the same offense, and their nephew John Rey Roa, for violation of Section 15 (Use of Dangerous Drugs).

Aquino said John Rey Roa, as a first time offender, underwent six months rehabilitation in a government rehabilitation facility.

The PDEA chief stressed “the unwavering dedication and commitment of the judges for truth and justice, and the prosecutors and PDEA agents as witnesses played a crucial role in presenting air-tight evidence against the suspects in favor of the government.

“To see drug offenders, especially high-profile drug personalities, punished with the full force of the law is itself a victory.”
