Volunteers from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) were left on an island in San Isidro, Batangas on Wednesday during the evacuation of several trapped animals amid the volcano's unrest.

PETA spokesperson Jana Sevilla said the volunteers were left behind on the island because of miscommunication with the boat captain.

Several dogs left behind in Talisay, Batangas were also rescued, PCG added.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said Alert Level 4 remains hoisted over Taal Volcano, warning about a possible hazardous explosive eruption within hours or days, since it first spewed ash and smoke last Sunday.
