CEBU CITY—Nine policemen from the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7) have been dismissed from service for being absent without official leave (AWOL).

Police Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, chief of PRO 7, said he already signed the termination order of the nine policemen.

The termination order came from PRO 7’s Personnel Division. The nine policemen may appeal their termination, the PRO 7 director said.

De Leon said the nine policemen were absent for work for five days without seeking approval from their respective superiors.

De Leon said that following the significant salary increase, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has implemented a strict attendance policy.

De Leon said “lazy cops” should not stay in the organization a minute longer.

“While it is true that the PNP is in need of more policemen, we cannot have these lazy cops who do not take their jobs seriously,” said De Leon.

De Leon warned that going AWOL was a grave offense.

Police officers who will be absent from work for three straight days without informing their superiors are automatically considered AWOL.

Failure to explain the absences may lead to dismissal from service, the PRO 7 chief said.
