MMDA deploys personnel to help Batangas relief, evacuation efforts

Thirty personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) were deployed to Talisay, Batangas to help residents affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano, after the Batangas Provincial Government sought the assistance of the MMDA.

According to MMDA, the rescue and relief personnel will aid in the mass evacuation being conducted in the affected areas. The team left MMDA headquarters at 6:45 a.m. on Monday.

Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago, MMDA spokesperson, said they also dispatched three military trucks, three ambulances, two fire trucks, 10 portable water purifiers, self-contained breathing apparatus, compressors, and a re-filler.

“Two MMDA trucks are now going around collecting evacuees. Another team is heading to the evacuation center to set up water purification and other hardware,” she said. “They will bring evacuees to the municipal hall then the PNP (Philippine National Police), Air Force, Army will take them to the evacuation center.”

The MMDA has been closely coordinating with the Batangas and Cavite Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices since Sunday.
