BUTUAN CITY – As government troops resumed their all-out offensive against Communist insurgents in Caraga region after the end of a Yuletide ceasefire, war material belonging to the rebels were seized in the hinterland town of Surigao del Sur province.
In a flash report received by the regional command and tactical operation center of Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) based at Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez here from the field, it was stated that the joint operation was conducted by the Ninth Special Force Company (9SFC), Special Force Infantry Division and the Third Special Force Battalion and the Philippine National Police (PNP) from the 1303rd Maneuver Company, 13th Regional Mobile Force Battalion (13th RMFB) in Mount Gacob, Sitio Magkahunaw, Barangay Buhisan, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur last week.
The government forces recovered war material such as two calibre-30 rifles, two M1 Garand rifles, 47 rounds of caliber 30 ammunition, 131 rounds of 7.62mm linked ammunition and 12 rounds of 40mm high explosive ammunition, Maj. Renel E. Serrano, chief of Regional Public Information Office of PRO 13 said.
The discovery of the said war material on Friday came about after information provided by two former NPA rebels who pinpointed the exact location of the said firearms and ammunitions, he added.
The seized war material were turned over to the headquarters of the 9th Special Force Company for proper disposition.
Meanwhile, PRO 13 Regional Director brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel, Jr. attributed the accomplishment to the good relationship of the government forces to communities.
The active support of communities resulted in information sharing and collaborative efforts between residents, local officials, and government forces, the region’s top police official added.
