Lawmen destroy P2.8M marijuana plants in Ilocos-Benguet boundary

CAMP PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Ilocos Sur — Joint operatives of the police and the Philippine Drug En­forcement Agency (PDEA) have de­stroyed fully grown marijuana plants with an estimated worth of P2.825 million in the mountainous area of Sitio Nagawa, Barangay Caoayan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur on Friday.

Police Lieutenant Jerry Arzabal, the Sugpon town’s chief of police, said the discovered 700 square meter – marijuana plantation was located at the disputed boundary of Baran­gay Tacadan, Kibungan, Benguet and Sugpon, Ilocos Sur.

He said that the operating troops have uprooted more or less 3,500 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants for the plantation site with another 17 kilograms of dried mari­juana stalks.

Based on the standard set by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), he said the market value of the destroyed Marijuana plants was P2,825,000.00.

He said the uprooted Marijuana plants were burned at the plantation site and only samples were brought to PDEA Regional Office 1 as pieces of evidence.

Arzabal said that follow investi­gation to the incident is ongoing to identify the cultivators of the Mari­juana plantations.
