3 persons hyperventilate in Marikina fire

Three people experienced hyperventilation (rapid breathing and fainting) during a fire that struck a residential area in Marikina City early Sunday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.

The Marikina City fire bureau identified the victims as Charito Santos, 46; Sofia Gonzalez, 56; and Earl Gabriel Santos, 21.

At least 10 houses along B. G. Molina Street corner Pilapil Street in Barangay Parang, Marikina were totally damaged by the fire that reportedly began at around 1 a.m.

The BFP said the fire that reached the second alarm level affected 22 families.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire 30 minutes later, and have completely extinguished it at around 2 a.m.

The BFP pegged the damage of the fire at P300,000.

The cause of the blaze however is yet to be determined by arson investigators. #
