Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said the Palace enjoined the Filipino Catholic faithful, particularly the devotees, in the passionate and devotional observance of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

“This annual celebration is a strong and a constant reminder of our people’s deep and lasting relationship with the Almighty,” he said Thursday morning.

“It is a good opportunity to strengthen our Christian ties with each other and move us to a spiritual awakening and rebirth that will contribute enormously to having a peaceful Philippines,” he added.

Panelo, likewise, said the Palace was one in wishing for the safety of the public and the orderly conduct of the solemn event as millions flocked to the Quiapo church and surrounding areas as part of the time-honored tradition.

On Wednesday, Malacañang advised the Catholic faithful to be extra careful as they participate in the annual procession of the Black Nazarene, expressing hope that this year’s Traslacion will be a peaceful one.

“Every year, palaging yun ang pinagdarasal natin, at pakiusap na kailangan maging maingat sila (That’s our yearly prayer: a peaceful Traslacion. And we ask them to stay safe),’ Panelo told reporters in Malacañang Wednesday evening.
