Tondo fire causes injury to 18, leaves P3 million in damage to properties

Around P3-million worth of properties was damaged in a fire that hit a commercial-residential establishment, and left 18 people injured on Lakandula St. in Tondo, Manila on Tuesday morning.

Ferdinand Roquete and Maria Jison were rushed to nearby hospital after sustaining abrasions and avulsions while 61-year-old Ma. Urella Coopera was left unconscious.

The fire started around 5:24 a.m. and immediately reached fifth alarm after an hour. It was put under control around 9:17 a.m.

Other people who were left injured were: Perfectio Tiu, Jun-jun Fornel, Yob Arsafe, JP Figueroa, and firefighters, Christian Bag-id, Edward Felix, Michael Jonson, Wilber Dayso, Nickeor Mandap, Cyrus Daguioan, Christopher Andrade, Ferdinand Duldulao, Purisima Bulaon, Jose Mabborang and Angelo Mercado.

The five-story establishment, located near the Tondo Parish Church, housed a bakery shop, a retail store, a skin clinic and an apartment.

Classes in adjacent Holy Child Catholic School were also immediately suspended.

Nineteen firetrucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection were deployed to the area while 30 for other fire volunteers.

Investigation into the cause of fire is ongoing.
