4.7 magnitude quake jolts Davao Occidental

A 4.7 magnitude earthquake jolted Davao Occidental Monday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 3:25p.m and was tectonic in origin.

The epicenter was plotted 52 kilometers (km) south west of Sarangani (Davao Occidental and had a depth of 26 km.

Intensity IV was felt in Glan, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato while Intensity III was recorded in General Santos city.

The following instrumental intensities were recorded:

Intensity III – General Santos City

Intensity II – Malungon, Alabel & Kiamba, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato

Intensity I -Koronadal City

Phivolcs also recorded on early Monday morning a moderately strong earthquake in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.

It pointed out that the 5.4-magnitude earthquake was generated by the movement along the Philippine Trench, which is different from the fault that prompted the 4.7-magnitude quake.

Phivolcs said it was not expected to cause any damage to property and aftershocks. No casualties were reported as a result of the tremor. (With reports from Ellalyn De Vera-Ruiz)
