Poor-performing police commanders at the regional and National Support Unit (NSU) levels have been warned to step up or be included in the list of those who would be booted out from their posts two weeks from now.

Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said regional and NSU commanders were already given of their second-to-the-last performance rating before the judgment day on January 20.

"In our December meeting with the PNP commanders, I furnish them with their ratings. I told them they have one week to contest the performance rating, otherwise, it would be final," said Gamboa.

Most of the sitting regional and NSU commanders were appointed in October after the resignation of PNP chief Oscar Albayalde, with the arrangement that their stay depends on the three-month performance evaluation.

The first evaluation as done in November 20, followed by the December 20 evaluation rating.

The fate of some of the NSU and regional commanders will be determined on January 20.

NSUs include the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Special Action Force, Highway Patrol Group, Aviation Security Group and Maritime Group.

"If they fail, it will be a cause of their relief but we hope that none of them fails because if all of them pass, that means they are doing their job well," said Gamboa.

"If some of them fail, they have to be replaced by someone who can perform better," he added.

But Gamboa said the judgment day will not cover the provincial, city and municipal levels of the police organization.
