DOJ, DOTr meet to discuss immigration issues in the airports

These personnel shall be subject to trainings to be conducted by the immigration bureau. The secretaries further suggested the establishment of additional e-gates and to make sure that all immigration counters are manned. At present, 500 immigration officers are deployed in NAIA Terminals 1-3, on shifting schedule. “Dapat walang mag-break kung maraming taong nakapila. Bayan ho ang nakasalalay dito. The immigration booths should never be unmanned. Let us collaborate. Let us work with each other. What is at stake here is the image of our country. Dapat walang MIAA, walang Immigration. Iisang gobyerno tayo. Hindi dapat turuan. Dapat tulungan,” Secretary Tugade said. During the discussion, MIAA was requested to talk with airlines in order to organize a flow for transit passengers, as well as the sorting of passengers for queuing. Preparations to address the requirements for the SEA games were likewise discussed. “Issues have to be addressed. We really need to do something about it. Remember, ang mas napapansin ng tao ay yung paminsan-minsan na nagkakabulilyaso. We should do our best not to allow that to happen. Dahil tayo ay Filipinos who are known for our hospitality, pagdating pagdating pa lang ng turista, ipakita na natin sa kanila,” Secretary Guevarra said. Both parties agreed to meet again after one month to discuss the status of previously discussed arrangements and plans for further improvement. Also present in the meeting were DOTr Usec for Finance Garry De Guzman, Usec for Aviation and Airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo, MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal, Asec for Procurement and Project Implementation Banoy Lopez, Immigration OIC for ports and airports operation Grifton Medina, and other immigration officials.
