BUTUAN CITY – A tourist from Bohol died, while four of his other companions suffered injuries when a lightning struck their boat off Naked Island in General Luna town, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte province, a belated report reaching the police regional headquarters here stated.
A flash report received at Caraga Region Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) headquarters here stated that Lee Christian Ragosta Zamora, 30, manager at QBE Call Center Company and a resident of Barangay Taloto Tagbilaran Bohol, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at Siargao Island District Hospital.
Injured and treated of their injuries at Siargao District Hospital were Elain Jhane R. Zamora, 19, Filipino, student and a resident of Barangay Taloto Tagbilaran Bohol; Princess F. Jayme, 23, Filipino, a private Employee and a resident of Barangay Banilad Cebu City; Zuzanne Sigamol, 27, Filipino, single, self-employed and a resident of Barangay Sun Valley Parañaque Manila; and Grace R. Tolibas, 28, Filipino, single and a resident of Barangay 5, General Luna Surigao del Norte.
Initial investigation conducted by the General Luna Municipal Police Station showed that the group went island hopping from mainland General Luna town to Naked Island onboard a motorized boat at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday (June 1).
“While sitting near the shoreline and taking pictures in the island, lightning suddenly struck near them due to the bad weather condition, its voltage scattered all over the wet place and as a result above mentioned persons suffered pain and injuries on their body,” said the initial report from General Luna MPS received by Caraga Region PRO 13 Regional Director P/Brig. Gen. Gilberto DC Cruz.
“After the incident they were brought at Siargao Island District Hospital for treatment by some concerned boatman escorted with PNP maritime Dapa Station. However Mr. Zamora was declared on arrival by the attending physician,” the General Luna MPS report added.
