“The holiday season must not deter us from remembering our suffering brothers and sisters. Let us be one with them in their suffering and extend help in any way we can,” said His Eminence who is serving his final weeks at the Manila archdiocese.

Last December 8, Tagle was appointed by Pope Francis as Prefect for the Congregation of the Evangelization of Peoples, one of nine powerful congregations at the Vatican.

In a holy mass held at the Missionaries of Charity in Manila, the cardinal asked the mass attendees for a moment of silence to pray for the calamity victims who were affected by typhoon Ursula on Christmas Day.

“As we thank the Lord for all His blessings, we must also remember the victims of calamities as well as the victims of social injustice,” Tagle said.

According to reports, a total of 28 individuals perished in the recent typhoon that hit Eastern and Western Visayas, while around 5,000 people were affected.
