The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) strengthened on Monday their operation against taxi drivers who overcharge, contract, and refuse to convey passengers this holiday season.

Taxi drivers line up their units as they wait for passengers along EDSA-Quezon Ave in Quezon City. The agency encourages passengers to report the errant drivers.

“Para po sa mga pasahero natin, lalo na ngayong Christmas season, advice po namin pag sumasakay sila ng taxi at hindi sila sinasakay o minsan nangongontrata, kunin lang nila yung pangalan ng taxi, plate number,” said LTFRB Technical Division Director Joel Bolano in an interview with DZMM.

(We advise passengers to get the name and plate number of the taxi drivers who contract them or refuse to service them.)

He added that the LTFRB will immediately summon the taxi operator and driver as soon as the report reaches them.

If the violation happens while riding the taxi, Bolano said the passenger should take a videos or photos to record the violation of the drivers.

“May smartphones naman po tayo para doon sa ebidensya. Makuhaan po sana natin ng video o photo para mas madali natin silang makuha,”

(Use your smarphones to record the evidence. In that way, we can easily identify the violators.)

On December 14, 2016, the LTFRB started Oplan Isnabero to protect passengers from erring taxi drivers.

The project is a nationwide campaign by the LTFRB again taxi drivers who:

  •  Do not give change to passengers
  • Do not wear IDs
  • Do not observe safety rules while driving
  • Do not reach out to persons with disabilities (PWDs)
  • Refuse to convey passengers
  • Do not properly use the taxi meters

A P5,000-fine may be imposed on those who try to contract passengers.
