Manila Mayor Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso has urged all delinquent taxpayers in the city to settle their dues as they have only until Friday, December 20, to avail of the tax amnesty program being offered by the City government.
Domagoso also directed city treasurer Jasmin Talegon to prepare her office for the expected influx of last-minute payers.
The Mayor also said the amnesty program will not be extended because he said that it had been offered even before he assumed the mayorship six months ago.
The amnesty program covered real properties, businesses, miscellaneous fees and other service charges.
According to Talegon, around P300 million were collected by the local government of Manila in the amnesty as of December this year.
Some individuals and universities have availed of the tax amnesty, including three top universities in Manila, namely University of the East, Far Eastern University and Mapua University.
Under the tax amnesty program, penalties and other charges incurred for failure to settle taxes on time will be waived so that delinquent tax payers will have the chance to settle their debts to the city in the original amount of assessed taxes only.
