“The beauty of Christmas is that God is with us,” Papal Nuncio Gabriele Caccia said five days before the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus Christ.
“We know by our catechism that God is one and united with man,” he said over Church-run Radio Veritas, calling on the faithful to offer their love and gratitude to the Infant Jesus who came into the world to save man from eternal damnation.
The Vatican envoy said the birth of the Infant Jesus makes us feel that we have a friend, a companion on our journey, and a Savior whom we can count on.
“The beauty of Christmas is that God is with us. This is something which we know by our catechism but each one should experience the truth that with His birth, Jesus is with us. We can count on Him as a redeemer, as a friend, as a companion in our journey,” Caccia said.
This is Caccia’s last Christmas in the country as Papal envoy. He is set to leave for New York to take up his new assignment as Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations on Jan. 16, 2020. Pope Francis assigned Caccia to be Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines in 2017.
