The Office of the Ombudsman has created a fact-finding investigation panel to look into the alleged corruption in the handling of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games funds.

Marties said during an interview held at the Diamond Hotel on Monday afternoon that he has given the seven-member panel the “discretion” to handle the investigation on how they see fit.

“I have just created a panel to conduct a fact-finding investigation. Pag may nakitang ebidensya (If they see any evidence), then we will be forced to file a case against those officials [who are involved in the] alleged corruption,” he said.

Martires said that everyone involved, including officials from private foundation Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc), will be thoroughly investigated.

Speaker of the House Alan Peter Cayetano, who heads Phisgoc, has already been cleared by President Rodrigo Duterte over the SEA Games fiasco. But Martires said that no one was off the hook yet.

“Natural, hindi tayo pwede maging selective sa ating investigation. We have to see kung ano participation ng bawat official ng Phisgoc (Naturally, we cannot be selective in our investigation. We have to see the participation of every Phisgoc official),” Martires answered when pressed about Cayetano being investigated.

“Of course, hindi pupwede hindi kasama (it cannot be that he is not included),” he also said.

The Ombudsman does not know when the investigation would be completed, since the length of time involved would depend on the number of documents the panel has to pore through.
