Issuing a statement, DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Nepomuceno Malaluan noted that the support from the government “has been unequivocal from the beginning.”

Malaluan issued a comment following the statement from Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo on the ranking of the Philippines in the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

“Our education officials are on the right track as we address the issues and gaps in the basic education sector,” the Presidential Spokesperson said.

“Addressing the remaining gaps in access, and launching a national effort to address quality as the biggest challenge of basic education today, is supported by the palace not just at the level of policy direction, but at the level of concrete actions,” Malaluan said.

DepEd, Malaluan added, was also “encouraged” by the full support of key stakeholders – legislators and education reform institutions, organizations and individuals – to recent initiative of the agency to shift from access to quality through the “Sulog EduKalidad.”

He also noted that “it will take a whole nation to address quality, and we are ready for the challenge and hard work ahead.”
