TACLOBAN City - The Department of Labor and Employment 8-Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-8 announced a proposed wage increase for “kasambahay” or domestic helpers in Eastern Visayas.

DOLE Regional Director Yahya Centi, RTWPB-8 chairman, said the proposed increase will be from P2,500 to P4,500 in chartered cities and municipalities and from P2,000 to P4,000 in other municipalities.

Centi said the review of the minimum wage for kasambahay has been long overdue since Kasambahay Wage Order No. 1 that set the minimum monthly rate of P2,500 for chartered cities and first class municipalities and P2,000 for other municipalities was issued in 2016.

"It is high time to revisit the said wage order and to give to the hardworking domestic workers what is due them," he shared.

He added that the increase is pursuant to Wage Order No. 08-02, which is now with the National Wages and Productivity Commission for further comment and approval.

Centi said once the wage order is approved, it will be effective 15 days after general publication.
