Two new Supreme Court associate justices have been appointed by President Duterte.
The President has chosen Court of Appeals justices Mario Lopez and Edgardo Delos Santos to serve in Supreme Court, according to Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo.
“We’re confirming the appointments of the new two justices — Justice Edgardo delos santos and Justice Mario Lopez,” he told reporters at the Palace.
Lopez and Delos Santos are expected to take the places of Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza and Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio who recently retired from the judiciary.
Malacañang has yet to release the appointment papers of the two justices.
Lopez and Delos Santos are among the nominees recommended by Judicial and Bar Council to the President for the two vacancies in the SC..
Lopez, a law graduate from San Beda College, previously served as a prosecutor of Tanodbayan, now known as Office of the Ombudsman, as well as an executive judge in Batangas City.
Delos Santos, a CA Justice based in Cebu, earned his law degree from University of San Carlos.
