PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said the massive background investigation is in compliance with President Duterte’s order for the police to initiate a massive crackdown against illegal recruiters.

“We will start with checking all the records relating to illegal recruiters who were arrested or are in our watchlist in the past,” said Banac.

Banac said the PNP leadership has tasked the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to do the background check.

The list that would be made, he said, will serve as the basis for surveillance and operations.

“Part of the background investigation is to determine who among the illegal recruiters are continuously engaging in illegal activities,” said Banac.

Once it is established, Banac said that it will be easy for the police to conduct operations and to determine if there are new players in illegal recruitment scheme.

But Banac said the easiest way for the PNP is for the victims to seek police assistance against those who duped them.

He also called on the public to cooperate by reporting to the police any person or group engaging in illegal recruitment for jobs abroad.

Illegal recruiters have been the bane of the Overseas Filipino Workers.
