STO. DOMINGO, Albay - Mayor Joseling Aguas issued an advisory on Sunday afternoon temporarily prohibiting the sale and drinking of alcoholic drinks within the municipality of Sto. Domingo.

His advisory to this effect was included in his announcement of the suspension of work, classes, and sea travel.

Aguas said the prohibition of the consumption and selling of alcoholic drinks is to ensure the safety of all residents.

"Maiiwasan natin ang aksidente kung walang lasing," he said. (We can avoid accidents if no one is drunk.)

Situated near the slope of Mayon Volcano, Sto. Domingo town is vulnerable to hazards such as lahar and mudflow, landslides, flooding, and storm surge.

Aguas said at least 17,000 individuals have been evacuated as a precaution against the untoward effects that typhoon Tisoy might bring.
