"All city hall employees shall not solicit or accept, directly or indirectly, any gift or favor from any individual or group they serve or transact with in relation to their official duties," the city government said in a statement.

This is to prove the local government's "commitment to selfless delivery of public service," it added.

Gatchalian said he terminated members of the Valenzuela City Waste Management Office last year after they accepted gifts.

The city mayor reiterated that regardless of the value or worth of the gift to be received, city hall employees will be at risk of losing their jobs should they accept.

The Valenzuela City government said residents can report erring city hall employees to the Valenzuela City Human Resources Management Office at 8352-1000.
