Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento has warned prosecutors not to engage in any corrupt practices.

“Do not destroy the entire organization,” Malcontento warned.

The Prosecutor General admitted that there were always “bad eggs” in every organization.

“We have to protect the name of the entire organization,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Malcontento said the National Prosecution Service (NPS) has been quick to act on reports of alleged illegal activities being committed by prosecutors.

“We receive reports and we immediately act on it,” said Malcontento who noted that NPS internal affairs unit handle these reports.

“However, we have to look into kasi marami naman diyan harassment suits (we have to look into these reports carefully because many of these are just harassment suits),” he added.

Malcontento noted that some of these reports have been filed by “disgruntled” complainants who just wanted to retaliate after their complaints were dismissed by prosecutors.

The Prosecutor General, himself, gave warnings to government prosecutors against committing corrupt practices during a recent conference of the Prosecutors League of the Philippines (PLP).

“I must remind you do not test the resolve of the current administration,” he told members of the PLP.

“May mga a few who are enterprising who sully the good name and reputation of the NPS,” he had cited.

With this, Malcontento asked prosecutors to help their fellow prosecutors who have gone astray.

“Tulungan ninyo sila magbalik loob (Help them return to us),” he urged.
