Medialdea designated OIC while Duterte is in Busan

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea has been designated as officer-in-charge of the executive branch while President Duterte visits South Korea from November 24 to 26.

The President is scheduled to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)- Republic of Korea commemorative summit in Busan, South Korea this week. Duterte is expected to depart Davao City Sunday night for his official visit to Korea.

“To ensure continuity of government service, it is necessary to designate an Officer-in-Charge to take care of the day-to-day operations in the Office of the President and oversee the general administration of the Executive Department,” the Special Order No. 1346 read.

In the order, Duterte authorized Medialdea to act for and on his behalf except on matters that the President is required by the Constitution to act in person while he is abroad.

All government departments and agencies have been ordered to assist the Executive Secretary in the discharge of his functions.

“All acts of the Executive Secretary for and on behalf of the President pursuant to this Order shall be deemed acts of the President unless disapproved or reprobated by the President,” the order read.

The order, signed by the President last November 22, was released by the Palace Sunday night.
