According to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Baguio, the CRDRRMC Inter-agency Task Force Kennon, with Office of Civil Defense (OCD) – Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Director Albert Mogol as chairperson, held an emergency meeting on Friday for it to act on the request of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong for the opening of Kennon Road during weekends.

The request was due to the tourist influx and to ease the heavy flow of the traffic along Marcos Highway and the Tubao-Asin-Nangalisan Road.

Due to the recommendation of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Task Force has approved the opening of the Kennon Road this weekend.

The window time is open only on a one-way, upward direction (going up to Baguio) for light vehicles (five tons and below).

Meanwhile, motorists in private vehicles that will pass through Kennon Road are advised to observe the speed limit of 20 kilometers per hour, and traffic guidelines, particularly when going for a stopover at the Lion’s Head.

Motorists were also advised to remain on the right-upward lane as there are residential vehicles that are using the downward lane.

“As Kennon Road will only be open on one lane upward direction, Baguio visitors who want to go down for a photo opportunity at the Lion’s Head, they must get clearance from the checkpoint at camp 8 view deck, as they will only be allowed to pass upon leaving a valid ID or their driver’s license and return back - up to retrieve it after their Lion’s Head visit,” PIA said.
