Earthquake drill conducted at Philippine Arena in preparations for SEAG

BOCAUE, Bulacan – An earthquake drill was conducted in the Philippine Arena in this town on Thursday as part of the 4th quarter national simultaneous earthquake drill and in preparation for the opening of the South East Asian Games (SEAG) on November 30.

The drill simulated the aftermath of a 7.2 magnitude tremor with a one-minute ground shaking scenario. Some residents from barangay San Isidro (Sitio Karahume) in San Jose Del Monte City, barangays of San Mateo and San Lorenzo in Norzagaray, and barangay Bayabas in Doña Remedios Trinidad which traverses the West Valley Fault System also joined the earthquake drill.

The opening ceremony for the SEAG at the Philippine Arena on November 30 with feature delegations coming from 11 countries with11,000 athletes, 9,000 volunteers, 530 events, 56 sports, and 44 venues from Metro Manila to Clark, Subic.

Earlier, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced the conduct of an earthquake and tsunami drill nationwide with the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council also notifying its regional, provincial, and municipal counterparts about the simultaneous earthquake drill.

The earthquake drill was also participated in by the Bulacan Philippine National Police, in coordination with disaster risk reduction management responders, the Bureau of fire Protection, with ambulances and fire trucks prepositioned in the four evacuation areas located at the Parking Areas A, B, VIP, and Parking area D.

The police personnel acted as security details for the evacuation areas and command post in front of the Philippine Arena.
