This was in accordance to Republic Act No. 11259 which provides that the plebiscite should be held on the second Monday of May 2020.

In Comelec Resolution No. 10620, the poll body announced that the casting of votes shall be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The counting of votes shall immediately follow after the close of voting hours, said the Comelec.

In the said resolution, the Comelec enumerated the calendar of activities for the plebiscite as well as the periods for certain prohibited acts.

Based on the Calendar of Activities, the Plebiscite Period is from April 11, 2020 to May 18, 2020.

During this period it is prohibited to bear, carry, or transport firearms and other deadly weapons. The organization of strike forces and suspension of local elective officials are also prohibited.

The Information and Campaign Period will also commence on April 11, 2020 and will end on May 9, 2020.

Prohibited acts during this period are appointments of new employees, creating new positions, and giving salary increases; construction of public works; and release of public funds.

The liquor ban, as well as prohibition in giving and accepting free transportation, food, and drinks, will take effect on the eve of the Plebiscite Day on May 10, 2020.

RA 11259 was signed into law by President Duterte last April.
