“There should be a space in the evacuation camps where they can place the breastfeeding mothers,” NNC 11 Nutrition Program Coordinator Maria Theresa Ungson said in a press conference Monday.

She said breastfeeding should be practiced inside the evacuation centers.

“Breastfeeding is still the best nutrition that mothers can give to their children,” she added.

Ungson also emphasized that donations of formula milk to the evacuees is prohibited under Executive Order No. 51 or the Milk Code.

“Let me remind everybody that donating milk even in times of emergency is really prohibited,” she said.

The NNC 11 executive said babies consuming formula milk are more prone to having diarrhea even if feeding bottles are sterilized.

Ungson urged the evacuation camp managers to remove any milk products in the food packs given by donors.
