DAVAO CITY - A suspected carnapper was cornered Tuesday morning after leading the authorities and some motorist in a wild goose chase.

Sta. Ana Police identified the suspect as Carmelito P. Tabion 27, a resident of Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.

Tabion took an elf truck from Sta. Ana Wharf and tried to run away with it, weaving his way in and out of traffic along throughfares.

According to the police report, Cpl. Lee Antoine Tambe, who is assigned at the Traffic Group of the Davao City Police Office, tried to flag down the elf truck driven by the suspect. However, when he approached the vehicle, the suspect sped off and hit the vehicle of Marc Jed Guevara, an airman of the Philippine Air Force assigned at the Tactical Operations Wing Eastern Mindanao.

The suspect headed to Quimpo Boulevard area where authorities continued to chase after him. At least two other motorists were hurt during the incident.

Police said the truck is owned by a certain Shuijin Hong who reported to them that they were hauling products at the Sta. Ana Wharf when the suspect took his truck.

Tabion was apprehended along Bolton Bridge.

The police said the suspect still resisted arrest by locking himself inside the vehicle prompting them to break the truck's window.

Tabion will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10883, the new Anti-Carnapping Law, direct assault, and damage to properties.
